The River City Rugby Football Club of Mason City finished up their Fall season of play with a perfect 6-0 record. The team has not been defeated since their second round match at The All Iowa Rugby Tournament held in Iowa Falls last May, giving them an eight match winning streak. River City won the State’s C Division Championship this year, and will compete in the B Division in 2011.The Club will hold it’s Annual Fall Awards Banquet on November 13th at The Other Place in Mason City. River City Rugby has been active in Mason City since 1972, and the Club is presently planning for it’s 40th Anniversary to be held in 2012. Olde Barking Dogs Rugby Team Returns From Australia Tour A team of 35 years of age an older Rugby players from Mason City returned recently from the 18th World Golden Oldies Rugby Festival held in Sydney, Australia from September 26th through October 3rd. The team, made up mostly of former players of River City Rugby and other Iowa Rugby Clubs, was formed in 2004. To date, they have attended GO Festivals in San Diego, California in 2005, Edinburgh, Scotland in 2008, and the most recent Festival in Sydney. The Festival in Sydney offered the players three days of Rugby competition, an Opening and Closing Ceremony, and a mid-week tour of the Hunter Valley Wine Country. This year’s Festival hosted over 4,800 players from 175 teams hailing from 17 countries. The Olde Barking Dogs next tour is scheduled for 2012 in the Hawaiian Islands.
