Gracious Estates resident points out water bill discrepancies

Vicki Hearn started keeping track of her water bill issues this summer after a four week sewage leak in her yard. She and other residents says meter reading and bills from Gracious Estates management just don’t add up.|This story is a continuation of a previous story about residents at Gracious Estates taking their water bill issues to Mason City City Council at the November 16, 2010 Council meeting.

Vicki Hearn, a resident of Gracious Estates, started keeping track of her water bill issues this summer after a four week sewage leak in her yard. She, and other Gracious Estates residents, says water meter readings and water bills from Gracious Estates management just don’t add up.

Vicki told NorthIowaToday.com water bill amounts are all over the place and meter readings are inaccurate, and sometimes people get billed who haven’t even moved in yet. For example, Vicki’s son, Kris Hearn, was billed for water when there was no water service to his home, and hadn’t moved in yet. This went on from May to August of this year.

Vicki says workers showed up one day and installed water meters without warning, and when she asked them if they were licensed to do the work, they replied “none of your business” as they came out from under her home.

Other Gracious Estates residents brought their stories to the Mason City City Council and told of very high water bills of $180 or more and little or no communication with Gracious Estates management.

NorthIowaToday.com will continue to monitor the situation at Gracious Estates and bring the latest to you.
