Frank Lloyd Wright fans should go to Des Moines before the end of this month. And while you are there, stop at the Salisbury House (4025 Tonawanda Dr) and check out some rare sketches by Wright himself. This amazing collection includes an original drawing of the Park Inn in Mason City, as well as many other projects, some of which never even got built. These 25 prints are on loan from Samara, a Wright-designed home in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The sketches are displayed in the upper bedrooms of the Salisbury House, a 42-room castle built in 13th Century English Tudor style. Although Wright probably wouldn’t have approved of the house’s design, it is a rare opportunity to see both some of his greatest works and a treasure of a home not known to many outside of Des Moines. The collection of art in the home is first-rate, and there are several pictures that depict the home in its original 1920’s glory to guide you along. Car lovers will love the cars in the garage, and especially the custom-made bi-fold doors.

The Salisbury House is also available for corporate functions and weddings and can be found at www.salisburyhouse.org.
