SIOUX CITY — A Northern Iowa man who distributed methamphetamine in the Fort Dodge area and possessed four firearms despite a lengthy felony record has been sentenced to nearly 22 years in federal prison.

Jordan Mefferd, 47, of Pocahontas, received a 262-month prison sentence on October 27, 2026, according to an October 28 announcement from federal prosecutors. U.S. District Judge Leonard T. Strand also ordered ten years of supervised release after his imprisonment.

Four controlled buys helped build the case

Evidence presented at Mefferd’s plea and sentencing hearings showed he conspired with others to distribute at least three pounds of methamphetamine in the Webster County area from approximately July 2024 through September 2025.

During August and September 2025, investigators used an informant to make four controlled purchases from Mefferd. Those transactions totaled more than 200 grams of pure methamphetamine, prosecutors said.

Officers executed a search warrant covering Mefferd’s person and residence on September 23, 2025. They seized a small amount of methamphetamine, $9,684.51 in cash, four firearms and ammunition.

Prior felonies barred firearm possession

Mefferd pleaded guilty June 15, 2026, to seven federal counts: conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, four counts of distributing methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

His previous felony convictions prohibited him from possessing firearms.

Prosecutors listed those convictions as conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession of lithium, possession of a controlled substance as a third or subsequent offense, eluding, third-degree burglary and escape from jail.

The sentence follows other lengthy federal penalties in regional drug cases, including more than 18 years for another Northern Iowa meth dealer whose case involved 100-mph police chases. That was a separate prosecution.

Prison term followed by ten years of supervision

Mefferd’s 262-month sentence amounts to 21 years and ten months in prison. Federal prosecutors noted there is no parole in the federal system.

At the time of the announcement, Mefferd remained in U.S. Marshals Service custody awaiting transportation to a federal prison.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn S. Wehde prosecuted the case.

Investigating agencies included the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Dodge Police Department, FBI, Iowa State Patrol, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Iowa DCI Laboratory and Webster County Attorney’s Office.
