IOWA CITY — Iowa football delivered a commanding performance Saturday, October 31, 2026, shutting out Wisconsin 30-0 at Kinnick Stadium behind an efficient outing from quarterback Hank Brown and a defense that repeatedly frustrated the Badgers.

The Hawkeyes improved to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in Big Ten play, secured bowl eligibility and kept the Heartland Trophy with a fifth consecutive victory over Wisconsin. The Badgers entered the game 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Iowa held Wisconsin to 52 rushing yards, nine first downs and 235 total yards while forcing three turnovers. The shutout was the Hawkeyes’ third of the season.

Brown completed 20 of 24 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns without an interception, distributing the ball effectively as Iowa built a 20-0 halftime lead.

“First and foremost, really proud of our team,” head coach Kirk Ferentz said after the victory, praising the players’ response to a difficult previous week and the effort across offense, defense and special teams.

Iowa opened the scoring on Caden Buhr’s 24-yard field goal before Brown found DJ Vonnahme for a four-yard touchdown in the first quarter. The Hawkeyes led 10-0 after one period.

One of the afternoon’s defining sequences came when the Badgers drove to Iowa’s 2-yard line in the second quarter but failed to score on fourth down. The Hawkeyes answered with a 98-yard touchdown drive capped by Brown’s four-yard pass to Tony Diaz.

Buhr added a 28-yard field goal as the first half expired, extending the lead to 20-0.

Vonnahme scored again on a two-yard run in the third quarter, and Buhr connected on a 54-yard field goal later in the period to complete the scoring.

Diaz finished with four catches for 75 yards and a touchdown. Vonnahme caught five passes for 54 yards and a score, while Reece Vander Zee added five receptions for 51 yards.

Xavier Williams led Iowa’s rushing attack with 78 yards on 20 carries. The Hawkeyes finished with 362 yards of total offense, including 140 on the ground, and controlled possession for 36 minutes and 21 seconds.

On defense, Cam Buffington led Iowa with eight tackles, including a sack. Jayden Montgomery contributed six tackles and a fumble recovery, while Jacob Wallace intercepted a pass. Iowa registered two sacks and held Wisconsin to four conversions in 13 third-down attempts.

Ferentz said the Hawkeyes played a cleaner game than the previous week and praised the team’s preparation. He also welcomed the return of the Heartland Trophy and emphasized the need to carry the improvement into November.

The announced crowd was 69,250 at Kinnick Stadium.
