MASON CITY — A retired donkey, a bluesy hound, a rockin’ rooster and a jazzy cat will bring music and mischief to the MacNider Art Museum when the Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre Company presents “Bremen Town Musicians!” on Thursday, November 5.
The museum will host three free performances in its Salsbury Room at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. All shows are open to the public, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors will open 15 minutes before each performance.
The production puts a fresh spin on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tale, following an unlikely group of animal companions who join forces and find a new purpose together.
In this adaptation, Till Eulenspiegel’s donkey retires and teams up with three musically inclined friends. Together, they outsmart two “granny scammers” who have been taking advantage of their former owners, settle into an abandoned cottage and take their musical act to the streets of Bremen Town.
Live guitar, piano and singing will help bring the animals’ adventure to life.
A grant from the Bertha Stebens Charitable Foundation makes the free performances possible.
Groups of 10 or more should call 641-421-3666 to register for either daytime performance. No registration is needed for the 6 p.m. show. Schools can also receive a bus subsidy while funds remain available.
The MacNider Art Museum is located at 303 Second Street SE in Mason City. Its Thursday hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., giving visitors time to explore the museum before or after a performance.
More information about exhibits, programs and events is available through the MacNider Art Museum’s website or by calling 641-421-3666.
