Burial will follow at Hawkeye Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 30, and again from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hawkeye Cemetery Fund or Hawkeye Public Library in Bev’s name. Condolences may be mailed to Scott Weidemann, 108 North Park Ct, West Union, IA 52175.

Born June 22, 1945, in West Union, Bev was the daughter of Wesley and Arlene (Begalske) Morse. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, attended Donnan Country School through eighth grade and graduated from North High School in West Union in 1963. During her school years, she participated in 4-H.

A construction project at her parents’ home brought Richard Weidemann into her life. Richard was building an addition to the residence when they met, beginning a relationship that would grow into more than 55 years of marriage.

They married August 28, 1971, and initially lived near Randalia. In 1973, they built their family home in Hawkeye, where they raised their three sons, Scott, Kurt and Chad.

Bev worked in Upper Iowa University’s Education Department for 10 years after high school before staying home to raise their sons.

She later returned to the classroom herself, attending night classes at Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar and earning a degree in computer applications in 1993. Throughout their marriage, she kept the books for Richard’s carpentry business. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Walvatne Electric in Hawkeye for 14 years.

Bev’s commitment to Hawkeye extended well beyond her working life. After marrying Richard, she joined Trinity Lutheran Church, where she held various offices. She served as a Scout leader and on the Hawkeye Library Board, participated in the Hawkeye Quilt Club and Hawkeye Businessmen’s Association, and helped Richard with his work on the Hawkeye Cemetery Board.

Her creative interests were just as varied. Cake decorating, flower arranging, painting, scrapbooking and quilting offered ways to put her imagination and attention to detail to work.

Bev is survived by her husband, Richard, of Hawkeye; sons Scott (Stephanie) Weidemann of West Union, Kurt (Angie) Weidemann of Hawkeye and Chad (Christy) Weidemann of Marion; brother Rodney (Kristy) Morse of Fayette; and sister-in-law Linda (Charter) Leete of Oelwein.

Her seven grandchildren are Keegan, Quinton and Nathan Weidemann of Hawkeye; Kinzley, Nora and Carson Weidemann of Marion; and Ethan Weidemann of West Union.

Also surviving are her niece, Julie (Mike) Bohr of Castalia, and nephews Dan (Angie) Leete of Sumner, Jon (Kari) Leete of Marion, Larry Buckmaster of Wadena, Ryan (Stephanie) Morse of Sumner and Alex (Amber) Morse of Fayette.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Arlene Morse; Richard’s parents, Paul and Eileen Weidemann; brother-in-law Marvin Buckmaster; sister-in-law Judy Buckmaster; and nephew William Charter Leete.

Her family’s obituary and service information are available through Becker & Son Funeral Homes.
