KNOXVILLE — A 29-year-old Knoxville man was killed late Saturday, October 24, when his pickup left a Marion County road, vaulted a drainage culvert and overturned, ejecting him from the vehicle.
The Iowa State Patrol identified the driver as Alex Eugene Killoren. The crash occurred at approximately 11:59 p.m. on Highway T17, east of 216th Place.
According to the patrol, Killoren was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado K25 westbound when he failed to negotiate a curve. The pickup entered the ditch and vaulted over a drainage culvert and ditch.
After reaching the west side of the drainage area, the pickup pitched forward and flipped at least once. Killoren was thrown from the vehicle during the rollover and came to rest west of the truck.
Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, and Pella EMS transported Killoren to Pella Regional. The patrol’s report lists his injuries as fatal and states he was not wearing a seat belt.
The report lists no other vehicles or injured occupants. It does not identify what caused Killoren to miss the curve.
Trooper Jon Thorup investigated the crash, with assistance from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Lambirth’s Towing removed the pickup.
The crash follows another recent fatal wreck covered by NIT in which an Iowa man died after his Ford Model A struck a culvert near Humeston.
Iowa had recorded 231 traffic fatalities in 2026 as of October 23, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s preliminary tally. That count predates Saturday night’s crash and remains subject to revision.
