A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 22, at Epiphany Parish–St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City. Burial will follow at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.
Born Jeanne Rae Jansen on November 26, 1937, she was the second of four children born to Ruby and Ray. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in 1955 and married her high school sweetheart, Dick Moorehead, on June 4 that year. She was 17.
Their marriage lasted 65 years, until Dick’s death. Together, they raised five children, and their family grew to include 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Jeanne also broke ground in agriculture. According to her family’s remembrance shared by Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, she became the first woman in the county to earn a commercial pesticide applicator license for farming.
Her interests reached well beyond the farm. Jeanne sewed, knitted, quilted and crafted, and enjoyed gathering with her card club. Outdoor adventures included boating, fishing, camping and trail rides with her horse, Fonda.
She could often be found at wrestling meets, football games and horse shows. Snowmobiling, hayrack rides, casino outings and bus trips with Dick added to the memories she enjoyed making. Her camera helped preserve those moments.
Her family described a woman who met difficulties with resilience and a sharp sense of humor, while making time to offer others a meal, practical help or a reason to laugh.
Survivors include her brother, Gary; sons Russ (Brenda), Dan (Kathy), Kevin (Anne) and Tim (Lisa); and daughter, Kelli.
She also leaves grandchildren Shawn (Kate), Josh (Katie), Tyler (Bailey), Colby, Cameron, Kendall (Colin), Ryan (Katlynn), Kyle (Kassi), Nick (Maile), Alex (Megan), Darrian (Lacey) and Skyler; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; parents, Ruby and Ray; sister, Bonnie; and brother, David.
The family expressed special gratitude to St. Croix Hospice for its care and support during her final week. The funeral home’s memorial page lists the Senior Citizens Center and St. Croix Hospice as designated charities.
