MASON CITY — The runway is getting ready to light up in Mason City, but this fashion show isn’t about expensive designer labels or professional models. It’s about creativity, confidence, second chances for gently used clothing, and a community where everybody gets a chance to shine.

The annual Affordables Fashion Show returns Friday, October 23, 2026, bringing together models of all abilities, local fashion retailers and talented Mason City High School students for an evening celebrating individuality and inclusion.

Hosted by 43 North Iowa, the event will take place at Affordables, 315 N. Delaware Avenue in Mason City. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the runway show beginning shortly afterward.

And this year, some of the most exciting looks on the runway will come from an unexpected place: the imagination of local high school students working with clothing that might otherwise have been overlooked.

Mason City students turn thrift-store finds into runway fashion

One of the highlights of this year’s show will be the debut of original creations by students in Mason City High School’s Textiles II class.

The students have been transforming thrifted clothing from Affordables into one-of-a-kind outfits, demonstrating how creativity and a little ingenuity can give old clothing an entirely new life.

Their work will bring a fresh dose of youthful energy to the runway while promoting sustainable fashion and the idea that great style doesn’t require a hefty price tag.

The show will also feature everyday clothing, professional attire, fall fashions and Halloween costumes.

Local favorite Moorman Clothiers will join the festivities, showcasing some of its latest fall looks.

Models of all abilities take center stage

What makes the Affordables Fashion Show special isn’t simply what the models wear. It’s who gets to wear it.

The event celebrates individuals of all abilities, giving participants an opportunity to express their personalities, show off their confidence and enjoy a moment in the spotlight.

From creative costumes to stylish everyday outfits, the runway will offer something for nearly every taste.

Matt Bradley will return as the evening’s emcee, while DJ Mike Fitzgerald will provide the music and help keep the celebration moving.

Guests will also have an opportunity to shop at Affordables after the fashion show, with store registers remaining open until 7:30 p.m.

Supporting a mission that makes a difference in North Iowa

Behind the music, clothing and runway excitement is a community organization dedicated to helping people build meaningful, independent lives.

43 North Iowa works to support individuals through opportunities involving housing, employment and participation in community life.

The nonprofit’s mission centers on helping people discover their abilities, pursue their goals and experience a greater sense of belonging.

Proceeds from the Affordables Fashion Show will support that work.

The evening also offers an opportunity for the community to celebrate the people, businesses and organizations that make those opportunities possible.
