WATERLOO — A late-night report of gunfire led Waterloo police into a Lunar Lane home Saturday, where officers found a wounded woman and began trying to save her life. She later died at a local hospital, prompting a homicide investigation.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 10:04 p.m. October 17 after a 911 caller reported shots believed to have come from inside a residence at 660 Lunar Lane. The caller also believed someone inside might have been injured.
Police entered the home, located an adult woman with a gunshot injury and immediately began lifesaving measures. Waterloo Fire & Rescue transported her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Victim’s identity withheld
The woman was taken to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy. Police withheld her name pending notification of her family.
Detectives believe the shooting was an isolated incident. The department’s October 18 release did not identify a suspect or announce an arrest, and investigators said no additional details were available for release.
NIT previously covered a separate case involving the arrest of a suspect in the murder of a Waterloo woman in April.
