World of Warcraft: Forever introduces a new, playable race in Azeroth. Blizzard refers to them as the Skyborne, a flying race whose home is a floating land on top of the clouds. They are the only core race to have an upgrade in the form of a paid upgrade, as opposed to the base subscription. Does that sound exciting to explore? You bet! Let’s dig deeper into their distinguishing features to determine whether they are worth the cost.
What Each Edition Actually Costs
The cheapest route is the Skyborne Heroic Pack at $29.99. It unlocks the race and nothing else beyond that single feature. Players who want more can grab the Skyborne Epic Pack for $59.99. That version adds beta access from September 17, thirty days of game time, and extra cosmetics.
The priciest option is the Warcraft Forever Collection at $79.99. It bundles Warcraft III: Reforged alongside the new Forsaken Kingdom campaign that sets up the story. None of these packs are required to play Forever itself. A normal subscription still gets any other race to level 60. For players chasing that character fast, professional WoW Forever boosting can shave weeks off the climb.
Why Blizzard Is Charging for a Race at All
So, why charge for a race in a game built around old-school progression? Blizzard has ruled out WoW Tokens and paid character boosts for Forever entirely. The studio tells leveling and gold they must retain their weight. A race to be bought makes a fine evasion, as it is a look, and not power, that is sold.
The newcomers do not get any advantage in terms of statistics, equipment, or gold. They merely open a beginning narrative other races lack. The difference has kept the majority of the backlash relatively mild to date. It has mostly been calm even among players who are cautious of additional monetization.
Zephras Isle: A Starting Zone Nobody Else Can Enter
Where these winged newcomers actually shine is the opening act. They start on Zephras Island, a sky-bound area of levels one to twelve. No other race should ever dare to enter such a zone. Blizzard constructed it just like Teldrassil used to be, in seclusion and with tightly themed rooms.
According to reports made by the closed beta, there were floating rock formations and storm-lit skies above. Quest chains there are steeped in flight and elemental power since time immemorial. It provides the latest inhabitants of Azeroth with a clean slate, in a self-sustaining manner. Pacing was tightest in most of the start areas of the zone, according to streamers who tested the zone early. When they hit level twelve, the story introduces them to the broader world, together with all other members of the faction.
Customization and Racial Abilities
Character customization runs noticeably deeper here than in past race launches for Forever. All models have an HD and SD version, and it can be switched with ease. That is equivalent to one option that already exists in the game that is on older, more established races.
Skin tone is fully exposed so that players can create an appearance that best suits their character. The general racial structure of Forever developed by Blizzard provides each race with two active abilities and two passive ones. Initial datamining indicates that this race conforms to the same trend as opposed to being the mold breaker. The full ability tooltips will be available after the beta client is updated in the coming months.
A Permanent Server Means a Permanent Choice
The bigger question for most players is not really the price tag. This boils down to long-term commitment much more than the sticker price. In World of Warcraft: Forever, there are no seasonal resets or character wipes in the future. An option at the launch should not be a temporary thing but a long-term one.
Selecting a race that is confined behind thirty dollars is not a light matter in a permanent server. Beta queues had already gone already, and the turnout was called the largest in decades by the staff of Blizzard themselves. The game designer, Joshua Greenfield, said that he had never witnessed such figures during the seventeen years he had been at the studio. Others are viewing early access as a bet on the overall direction that the entire community will end up.
There Is Something Exciting to Explore
Cosmetic monetization and pay-to-win progression are two distinct concepts that Blizzard has outlined here. The latter practice will probably influence the way in which Forever treats all future content releases henceforth. It is likely that whatever comes next, whether new territory or new cosmetic packages, will follow this same pattern. For now, the choice is up to each player ahead of November. You can either spend $30 on the new Skyborn characters and their unique origin story or stick with a familiar race and put that money toward other in-game content.
