IOWA FALLS — Carol Ann Harman, 78, of Iowa Falls, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, October 4, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Scenic City Empress Boat Club Lodge, 1113 Union Street in Iowa Falls. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Iowa Falls is assisting the family.
Through the Oak Street Cafe and later Carol Ann’s Second Time Around, Carol helped create places where Iowa Falls residents could enjoy a meal, find a treasure and spend time with a friend. The conversations and connections mattered deeply to her.
Born August 8, 1948, in Port Angeles, Washington, Carol was the daughter of Clyde and Ethel (Rosanbalm) Bellis. She later moved to Kodiak, Alaska, where she met her first husband, Randy Alm, the father of her four children.
While waitressing in Sequim, Washington, Carol met John Harman. The two became inseparable and married in 1985. They lived in Orange County, California, before moving to Iowa Falls in 1991 and building a life rooted in their new community.
Carol and John opened the Oak Street Cafe in 1992. Cooking gave Carol a way to care for others, and she enjoyed bringing people together around a meal.
In 1996, the couple opened Carol Ann’s Second Time Around. Carol operated the consignment store with John and her friend Pam until she and John retired in 2020. Customers stopped in to browse, but many also came for the stories, laughter and visits that made the store a gathering place.
As her family recalls in Carol’s obituary and remembrance page at Woodley Funeral Home, her gift for friendship extended well beyond her businesses.
She enjoyed morning coffee with Kitty, Yahtzee parties, Scrabble with friends and time at home sharing food and conversation. She also loved making holidays fun and memorable for the people around her.
Family remained central to Carol’s life. She raised her children, Lars Alm of Iowa Falls, Angie Lowe of Port Angeles, Washington, Randy Alm Jr. of Popejoy, and Sam Alm of Port Angeles, as well as her granddaughter Brooke. Her affection extended to her many beloved siblings, stepchildren, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Carol’s life in Iowa Falls was filled with everyday moments that became lasting memories: a meal served, a story shared and a visit that turned into a friendship.
