POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY – Two people were killed when a semi left an Iowa Interstate highway and slammed into a bridge support, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The crash happened at about 6:24 a.m. on July 29, 2026, along northbound I-29 near the 66-mile marker.
Investigators said a 2024 Kenworth T680 was traveling north when it left the roadway for an unknown reason, went through cable barriers and entered the median.
The semi then struck a support column for the Rosewood Road bridge just beyond the 66-mile marker.
The driver, Charles Leroy Grandpre, 64, of Salina, Kansas, was killed in the crash.
A passenger, Angela Dawn Blackwood, 49, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, was also killed.
The crash report indicates neither Grandpre nor Blackwood was wearing a seat belt.
Both were transported by Cutler-O’Neill Funeral Home.
The semi was operated by Grandpre Express of Salina, Kansas, according to the State Patrol report.
The Iowa Department of Transportation and Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office were among the agencies assisting at the scene.
The cause of the crash remained listed as unknown in the State Patrol report.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, 192 people have died on Iowa roads so far in 2026. The preliminary fatality count is updated as additional crash information becomes available.
