Michael Loden, kindhearted Osage man who loved cars, racing and family, dies at 57

OSAGE — Michael Edwin Loden, 57, of Osage, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 24, 2026, leaving family and friends with memories of his gentle nature, warm humor and willingness to help others. A private family graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell, Iowa.

OSAGE — Michael Edwin Loden, 57, of Osage, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 24, 2026, leaving family and friends with memories of his gentle nature, warm humor and willingness to help others.

A private family graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell, Iowa.

Michael was born December 26, 1968, in Osage, the son of Austin and Shirley Loden. He grew up in the community and graduated from Osage High School with the Class of 1986.

After high school, Michael moved to New Jersey and began working for a telecommunications company. His time there brought friendships that remained important throughout his life.

Michael enjoyed working on cars with his best friend, Lou, and attending automobile races. He was also a devoted Minnesota Vikings fan and always appreciated Connie’s famous baked macaroni and cheese.

Michael eventually returned to Iowa and went to work for Kraft. He married Denise Roll, and the two shared many treasured memories before Denise’s death in 2009.

Michael later made his home with Deb Chase in Osage. Their years together were filled with love, companionship and happiness. Among Michael’s greatest joys was spending time with his granddaughter, Lexie, who held a special place in his heart.

Those who knew Michael found a kindhearted man with a gentle spirit. His friendship, warmth and sense of humor touched many lives, and he was always ready to offer a helping hand when someone needed him.

Michael is survived by his wife, Deb Chase of Osage; his mother, Shirley Loden of Mason City; brothers, Dean and Marilyn Loden of Osage and Mark and Mary Loden of Mason City; and sister, Mary and Roy Christeson of Plymouth.

He is also survived by his stepdaughters, Nikki Roll, Katie and Jim Cowell of Osage, and Stephanie and Jeff Bostrom of Prosper, Texas; granddaughter, Lexie; stepson, Christopher Gerk; and nieces, Brittany Loden of Eau Claire and Emily and Jess Ciavarelli of Plymouth.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Austin Loden; his wife, Denise Loden; and his niece, Alexandra Loden.
