OSAGE — Charles Douglas “Doug” Murphy Jr., 83, of Osage, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
Doug was born April 20, 1943, in Savannah, Iowa, the son of Charles Douglas Murphy Sr. and Reva Utt Murphy. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, Iowa.
According to his obituary, Doug spent most of his working life farming. He later moved to the St. Petersburg, Florida, area, where his daughter and granddaughter lived, and established a successful lawn-maintenance business.
Doug eventually returned to Iowa and settled in Osage, where his son and family lived. He continued putting his experience and love of outdoor work to use while employed by Pollard Lawn Service.
His obituary notes that Doug especially enjoyed yardwork and remained happiest outdoors even after he was no longer able to perform the work himself.
Sports were another important part of Doug’s life. He followed the Iowa Hawkeyes and Florida Gators, attended Tampa Bay Buccaneers games with his daughter Julie and enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races with his sons Tracy and Aaron and their families.
Doug is survived by his wife, Teresa Murphy; children Julia and John Kauzlarich, Tracy and Deborah Murphy, and Aaron and Becky Murphy; stepchildren Christopher and Janice Vohl, and Marc and Lauren Vohl; grandchildren Jake and Alan Murphy, Sara Murphy, Jackson and Gracie Murphy, Matthew and Shannon Murphy, and Meghan Murphy; and step-grandchildren Kristi and John, Samantha, Madison, Trinity, Bobby and Lilly.
He is also survived by great-grandchildren Blaine, Baylor and Charles; step-great-grandchild Jeada; sisters Delores and Elmer Wilkes and Linda Dencklau; and other relatives and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Reva Murphy, and his granddaughter, Whitney Mathias.
A private burial will be held at a later date at Pulaski Cemetery in Pulaski, Iowa.
