Charles City woman Lorna Ann Haeflinger, 65, passes away after life filled with family, smiles and music

CHARLES CITY — Lorna Ann Haeflinger, 65, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at her home at Comprehensive Systems in Charles City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2026, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elma, with Pastor Bruce Miller presiding. Burial will follow at Howard Cemetery in Elma.

CHARLES CITY — Lorna Ann Haeflinger, 65, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at her home at Comprehensive Systems in Charles City.

Lorna Ann was born October 12, 1960, in Charles City, the daughter of Earl and Lorna Mae Haeflinger of Alta Vista. She grew up on the family farm in rural Alta Vista and later lived in Elma after her parents retired.

She attended the Special Education Program through the New Hampton School District and later took part in the Day Habilitation Program through Comprehensive Systems at the Work Activity Center in Elma, New Hampton and Charles City.

Family and home were important parts of Lorna Ann’s life. She helped her parents maintain their home and remained close to her siblings, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Lorna Ann enjoyed Special Olympics, including the softball throw, and also liked bowling, board games, card games, music and dancing. She especially enjoyed listening to Kenny Rogers and Justin Bieber. She also spent time coloring and making stamped greeting cards.

Those who knew Lorna Ann will remember her upbeat spirit, sense of humor and bright smile. Her family also expressed gratitude for the love and care shown to her through the years by relatives, friends and caregivers.

She is survived by her sister, JoAnn Ridgway; brothers, Roger Haeflinger, Jim Haeflinger, John Haeflinger, Earl Haeflinger and Rick Haeflinger; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lorna Mae Haeflinger; her brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Ridgway; and a great-niece, Kayla Gilbert.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2026, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elma.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2026, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elma, with Pastor Bruce Miller presiding. Burial will follow at Howard Cemetery in Elma.

Memorials may be directed in Lorna Ann’s name to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elma or Comprehensive Systems.
