BOONE COUNTY — An Iowa man was killed and a Des Moines woman was injured in a head-on crash with a semi on June 15, 2026, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The crash happened at 2:02 PM in the 2100 block of 190th Street in Boone County.
According to the crash report, a 2022 Jeep Compass driven by Bailey Jo Craven, 34, of Des Moines, was traveling westbound on 190th Street. A 2020 Kenworth semi driven by Wyatt Robert Corbin, 26, of Boone, was traveling eastbound.
The Iowa State Patrol said the Jeep entered the oncoming lane and moved into the path of the semi. The two vehicles then struck head-on.
After the crash, the Jeep came to rest on its driver’s side in the south ditch. The semi came to rest jackknifed in the roadway, blocking both lanes.
A passenger in the Jeep, Tristan Kyle Nelson, 37, of Ames, was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical examiner. The report states Nelson was wearing a seatbelt.
Craven was injured and taken by air ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. The report states Craven was also wearing a seatbelt, which authorities listed as lifesaving in her case.
The semi was operated by M&W Ag Supply LLC of Jefferson, Iowa. The report states no hazardous materials were involved.
Both vehicles were towed by CIT Towing.
The crash remains under investigation. Trooper Brent Rykhoek handled the report, with assistance from the Iowa State Patrol and Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
The fatal crash comes as Iowa has recorded 129 traffic fatalities so far in 2026, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s daily traffic fatality count. The DOT notes recent fatality totals are preliminary and can change as crash investigations are completed.
