
MASON CITY – The Mason City Community School District Board of Education will consider a list of personnel changes during its regular meeting on Monday, May 18, 2026, including teacher resignations, summer hires, custodial resignations, a payroll manager hire and extracurricular coaching changes.
The personnel report was prepared for the board by Tom Drzycimski, the district’s human resources director.
Two certified staff resignations are listed for board consideration. Sandra Anderson, a PreK teacher at Harding Elementary, is resigning effective upon completion of her 2025-26 contract after 9 years of service. Jordon Monahan, a science teacher at Mason City High School, is also resigning effective upon completion of the 2025-26 contract after 5 years of service.
The board will also consider one certified personnel reassignment. Scott Swenson would move from a 4-hour bus monitor position with the Transportation/Administrative Center to a 7.5-hour bus monitor/student transport position for the 2026-27 school year. According to the personnel memorandum, Swenson’s hourly wage would not be affected, but he would become eligible for full-time benefits. The reassignment would replace Lori Pals, who took early retirement.
Several temporary summer employees are also listed for board approval.
The district is recommending summer grounds crew hires at the Administrative Center for Al Fakhouri at $16.41 per hour, Isaac Buhr at $13 per hour, Drew Hobart at $13 per hour, Marquez Holton at $12.75 per hour, Henry Kotta at $13 per hour and Drayden Witt at $13 per hour. The district is also recommending temporary summer IT crew hires Holly Fiser at $17.21 per hour and Nikko Kurose at $12.75 per hour. Lisa Parsons is listed for a temporary summer paint crew position at $17.73 per hour.
The personnel report also includes a new paraprofessional position at Lincoln Intermediate. Dion King is listed as a paraprofessional/physical education hire for 8 hours per day during the 2026-27 school year at $16.90 per hour.
Taylor Marzen is listed as a new hire for administrative assistant/payroll manager at the Administrative Center. The position would pay $22.22 per hour for the 2026-27 school year, with a start date listed as June 1, 2026. According to the district memorandum, Marzen would replace Jennifer Wilmarth, who took early retirement. The position also includes a sharing agreement with West Fork Community School District to provide HR-related services.
Non-certified resignations listed in the report include Daniel Harrington, custodian at Lincoln Intermediate, effective June 10, 2026, after 5 years of service; Jennie Harrington, custodian at Harding Elementary, effective June 11, 2026, after 4 years of service; Zilenis Lopez Galindo, paraprofessional/special education at Hoover Elementary, effective May 8, 2026; Tamara McBride, food service/general worker at Hoover Elementary, effective May 8, 2026, after 7 years of service; and Katie Michalek, paraprofessional/special education at Harding Elementary, effective April 22, 2026, after 1 year of service.
The board will also consider extracurricular personnel changes.
Dion King is listed as the replacement hire for head freshman softball coach at Mason City High School for summer 2026. The position pays $4,168 and replaces McKenna Mentink, who resigned.
Marzen is also listed for a sharing agreement supplemental contract to provide HR-related services for West Fork Community School District. The supplemental contract is listed at $10,193, with West Fork Community School District reimbursing Mason City Community School District for the contract.
Extracurricular resignations include Dion King as assistant freshman softball coach at Mason City High School, effective May 11, 2026, and Marten Van Ausdall as assistant varsity boys swimming coach at Mason City High School, effective May 8, 2026.
