DUBUQUE COUNTY – A Northern Iowa man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash involving a pickup and a farm tractor on Highway 20, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

The crash happened at 5:25 p.m. Monday, May 11, on westbound Highway 20 near mile marker 306.

According to the patrol, a 2006 Ford F-150 driven by 64-year-old Dean Dettbarn of Dyersville and a farm 9620RX tractor driven by 25-year-old Levi Pfab of Epworth were both traveling westbound when the pickup struck the tractor.

The tractor was pulling an anhydrous toolbar with an anhydrous tank in tow, according to the report. Both vehicles came to rest on the north shoulder of Highway 20.

Dettbarn was injured and transported by Epworth EMS to MercyOne Dubuque with life-threatening injuries. The patrol report said Dettbarn was wearing a seatbelt and indicated the seatbelt saved his life.

The Ford F-150 was towed by Tegeler’s.

The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, Epworth Fire and EMS, MercyOne Dubuque and Tegeler’s assisted at the scene. Trooper Kuhlman investigated the crash, with assistance from other Iowa State Patrol units.
