DES MOINES – Mason City dentist, Stephanie Nettleton, DDS, was installed as North Central District Dental Society Trustee for the Iowa Dental Association (IDA) on April 29. In 2020, she received the prestigious IDA President’s Award in recognition for her exceptional leadership in organized dentistry and her commitment to both the IDA and the American Dental Association.
Dr. Nettleton attended the University of Iowa for undergrad and received her DDS from the UI College of Dentistry in 1994. She was born and raised in Mason City and is proud to be working in the same dental practice her grandfather started in 1923 – 103 years ago! She had the privilege of practicing with her father for 10 years before his retirement, and is now partners with her husband, Dr. Nathan Hehr, and Dr. Kari Leibrand.
Dr. Nettleton is a trustee for the Board of Directors for North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) and a member of the NIACC Foundation Board. She is also actively involved in music ministry at Epiphany Parish, serving as the choir director. As the proud mother of three adult children she loves to spend time with her family doing the things that she loves – golfing, cycling the trails, and watching Iowa Hawkeye sports.
In addition to Dr. Nettleton, seven dentists were installed into new roles on the IDA Board of Trustees:
Immediate Past President, Ryan Hajek, DDS, pediatric dentist from Council Bluffs
President, Shawn Hedlund, DDS, general dentist from Iowa City
President-Elect, Ammon Anderson, DDS, endodontist from Sioux City

As is custom, the installation of new officers and trustees took place during the IDA Annual Session, held April 30 – May 2 in Des Moines.
The Iowa Dental Association (IDA) is the largest, most representative professional oral health association in Iowa. Nearly 1,700 Iowa dentists are members of IDA. Established in 1863, the IDA mission is to encourage the improvement of the health of the public, promote the art and science of dentistry, and to represent the interests of the members of the dental profession and the public that it serves.
