Marian Elaine Burgart age 91 of New Hampton, IA, died Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at MercyOne New Hampton Medical Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Holy Family Parish, New Hampton with Rev. Chris Podhajsky celebrating the Mass.
Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Hampton with Chad Rausch, Matthew Baldwin, Steven Baldwin, Taylor Burgart, Jenna Kice, and Elyse Desimone serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jessie McGraw, Autumn Schrage, Brian Tenge, Jennifer Hammermaster, Stefanie Morgan, Megan Coppock, Riley Burgart, Karson Crooks, and Kara Crooks.
Friends are invited to greet the family from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2026, at Hugeback – Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton where there will be a 7:00 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues one hour before the Mass at the church on Saturday.
Marian Elaine Burgart, 91, of New Hampton, Iowa, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026 in New Hampton, Iowa. She lived a long and meaningful life marked by love, devotion, and a steadfast commitment to her family, her faith, and the life she built with her husband and children.
Marian was born on February 1, 1935, in New Hampton, Iowa, and was the daughter of William and Irene (Munson) Ball. She earned her education in the New Hampton schools. During those years, she met a young man named Clifford Burgart at the roller skating rink, and a beautiful love story began. Their bond grew strong, and they were married on June 19, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton. Together they shared a lifelong partnership built on faith, hard work, and deep affection. To this union, five children were born: Christine, Charles, Diane, Cathy, and Alan.
Not long after their marriage, Clifford was called into military service. During that time, Marian remained at home with her parents, patiently awaiting his return and holding fast to the life they had begun to build together. When Clifford came home, the couple moved to their farm, where Marian became an essential part of daily life and farm work. She did everything on the farm and approached each responsibility with strength and dedication. She helped in the fields, tended the livestock, and lent her hands to whatever needed to be done. Marian also maintained a large garden that provided a bounty of produce for her family, and she took great joy in growing beautiful flowers. She was selfless in all that she did and always put the needs of her family first.
Marian was a Christian and lived her faith through the way she cared for others. Her life reflected kindness, patience, and a quiet but unwavering strength. She was loving, thoughtful, and adventurous, and those qualities were evident in the way she embraced each season of life. She and Clifford enjoyed boating and camping, and Marian loved spending time in the great outdoors. She especially enjoyed traveling and never said no to a vacation. Together, they were fortunate to see many parts of the world and experience different cultures and beautiful destinations. These travels became treasured memories that added richness and joy to their years together.
Marian was also an excellent seamstress with a remarkable skill for needle and thread. She could mend, repair, and create with care and precision, and her work was always appreciated by those who knew her best. In her younger years, she loved to roller skate and was an avid dancer who always wanted to attend the local dances. She carried that spirited nature with her throughout her life. Marian treasured time with her family above all else, and she made it a priority to be present for every gathering, outing, and occasion. Her family was the center of her world, and she found great joy in being together, no matter the event. She also deeply enjoyed her grandchildren and faithfully attended their games, recitals, and activities, always cheering them on with pride and love.
Marian will be remembered as a woman of great heart and enduring devotion. She was loving in her care for others, adventurous in her spirit, and thoughtful in the way she lived each day. Her life was a testament to faith, family, and perseverance. Those who knew her will remember her warm presence, her generous nature, and the many ways she quietly made life better for the people around her.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and all who were blessed to know her.
Marian is survived by her husband, Clifford Burgart of New Hampton, IA; five children, Christine Tenge of New Hampton, IA, Charles (Mary) Burgart of Des Moines, WA, Diane (Jeffrey) Baldwin of Mason City, IA, Cathy (Dan) Shatek of Elma, IA, and Alan (Wendy) Burgart of New Hampton, IA; fifteen grandchildren, twenty five great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Gary (Terry) Ball of Chatanooga, TN; two brothers-in-law, Reynold Burgart of New Hampton, IA, and Darrell Blake of Cedar Rapids, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Raymond (Joan) Ball; three sisters, Carol Burgart, Sharon (David) Messersmith, and Judy Blake; one son-in-law, Ken Tenge.
