Nathaniel Haakon Christensen, aged 13 months, passed away on December 12, 2025, at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.

Nathaniel was born October 25, 2024, to Josh and Amy Christensen of Eagle Grove. He was born 6 days before his older sister Sophia celebrated her first birthday; Amy called them her “Irish twins”. His favorite toys were his sisters, Hannah (4) and Sophia (2), and they kept him busy and taught him to be ornery. He was a very active and inquisitive child, always needing to be in the thick of the action, whether that was standing at Dad’s feet while he cooked dinner, snuggling Mom, or chasing his sisters and trying to snag their art supplies and toys. His favorite food was anything put in front of him, and his favorite activity was anything with his family. He had the most beautiful smile, the silliest giggle, and the best snuggles.

Nathaniel wasn’t with us long, but he has left an indelible mark on our hearts. When he was born, we spoke life and adventure into his name. He was named after men in our family who were men of action, men who created new things and blazed trails for others to follow. We know that his time is done on this side of heaven, but we will see him again. In the meantime, we would ask that you help us honor his legacy by having an adventure in his name. This could be as simple as learning something new, writing the book you’ve always thought about, or it could be something so daring that others think you’re crazy. Our prayer is that he sparks adventure when people hear his name.

We would like to thank the amazing staff at the Blank PICU and all emergency personnel that walked with us during this difficult time. Gratitude isn’t a big enough word to express regarding our appreciation for the overwhelming support shown by friends, family, and work family.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Eagle Grove. Lunch and visitation immediately following the services.

Instead of flowers or plants, the family asks that memorials be directed to the family. In time, these gifts will be used to bless others in meaningful ways that reflect Nathaniel’s name and legacy; marked by adventure, generosity, and service. As decisions are prayerfully made, it is the family’s hope that Nathaniel’s life will continue to inspire acts of courage, compassion, and care for others, just as the men in his family before him did.
