Margaret Myrna Bagur, 65, of Mason City, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and services are pending.
Born on October 12, 1960 the daughter of John and Shirley (Anderson) Wallace, Margaret grew up in Burchinal with the kind of small-town upbringing that shaped her grit, her humor, and her talent for talking to absolutely anyone. She attended the Clear Lake School District. She always had a desire to help people whether it be her early ambitions to be a medic, gaining skills she used often, whether officially or while patching up the people she cared about.
Later in life Margaret spent time at NIACC helping as a developmental writing and reading tutor. She took her work seriously, not because it sounded impressive to anyone, but because helping someone finally understand something mattered to her. She loved the moment when an idea clicked in someone’s head and they finally “got it”. Students trusted her, coworkers respected her, and anyone who knew her understood that she didn’t do anything halfway. She had a deep connection to the organization formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America, working not only in the district scout shop, but also working individually with many children in it’s programs and also working as a staff member at the district camp. Margaret found a new calling late in life and spent her final years working for a thrift store operated by a local nonprofit. Here Margaret had an opportunity to shine in a new way. She was very proud of the work she did both for the clients she considered herself lucky to work around, but also in helping the community as a whole. The company she worked for says their mission is to “help people find their way”, and this was something Margaret lived every single day. Whether it was her own immense growth or the way she encouraged every client who graced her life to always keep striving to be the best versions of themselves, she was truly, always helping someone to find their way.
Outside of work, Margaret was the kind of mom, grandparent and friend who showed up—sometimes with advice or sometimes with a joke, but always with heart. She loved her family, friends and coworkers fiercely and had a talent for making even ordinary days a little more interesting.
She is survived by her son, Mike (Melanie) Bagur; her grandchildren, Alexis (Logan) Setser and Cashius Bagur; her great-grandson, Rowan; her nieces Angela (Shawn) O’Donnell, Bobbi (Kevin) Ring; her nephew Joseph Mary and numerous great nieces and nephews, as well as her brother-in-law John Abele. Her stories, her stubborn streak, and her steady presence will be missed by numerous friends, both old and new.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Shirley Wallace; her grandparents; her sisters, Patricia Abele and Priscilla Wallace; and her niece Heather Bakkum.
