Howard Allan Metzger was born in Estherville, Iowa on April 15, 1967 to John Metzger, Jr, and Alice (Sherling) Metzger. He passed away surrounded by his family at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Estherville, after a short illness, on November 17, 2025 at the age of 58.
Howard attended and graduated from Estherville High School, the class of 1986. He attended one year of college, before going into the work force. He was united in marriage to Melanie Phillips on June 21, 1996. The couple had two sons Trent and Jacob. Howard worked for Godfather’s Pizza for many years, as well as Don’s Pest Control.
Howard enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. His days were brightened when his children and grandchildren were around.
Howard is survived by his wife Melanie; his sons Trent (fiancée Cleo Estes) and Jacob; and his grandchildren Jaxson, Dominic, and Emma. He is also survived by his siblings Shane Metzger and Helen (Mike) Larsen, and his nephew Brody Metzger; and many aunts, uncles and cousins..
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, mother-in-law Linda Phillips, and infant granddaughter Mia Phillips.
A celebration of Howard’s life will be held at a later date.
