Kerry Joel Kleinschmidt, 74, of Carpenter, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
Kerry’s life will be celebrated privately, but little pieces of him will be remembered each day by those who cared for him – through the laughter he inspired, the lessons he shared, and the love he gave so freely.
Born August 3, 1951, to Ralph and Priscilla (Wegner) Kleinschmidt, Kerry lived a life shaped by curiosity, kindness, and faith. He had a lifelong interest in electronics and theology and found joy in fellowship and Bible study. Over the years, Kerry worked as a journeyman computer draftsman and later as a mechanic, skilled in both diesel and gasoline engines. Handy and resourceful, he could fix nearly anything. Quirky and wonderfully unique, he lived simply and appreciated the little things that made life meaningful.
Kerry loved to drive—whether behind the wheel of a semi, exploring new places on the open road, or simply enjoying the quiet country routes of North Iowa, Missouri, and beyond. In his younger years, he found peace and adventure outdoors, often hiking, mountain climbing, or following wherever curiosity led him. His friends described him as kind and gentle, with a smile that came easily. He lived life on his own terms and cared deeply for those around him, always willing to lend a hand when he could.
He is survived by his children, Eric Kleinschmidt Sr., Wendy Bean, and Jessica Perez; grandchildren, Tyler, Ashley, Tallison, Ricky, Carlos, Samantha, Eric Jr., Katrina, and Nora; great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Owen, Abigail, Waylon, Annabelle, Bennette, and Paisley; and siblings Beth Lohan, Mark Kleinschmidt, and Matt Kleinschmidt. He is also remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Kerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Priscilla; and his siblings John, Kevin, David, and Lynn Kleinschmidt.
