WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democrats in the U.S. Senate, led by Chuck Schumer of New York, refused to pass a clean continuing resolution bill to keep the federal government open, and for weeks, the ensuing shutdown has spawned outrage, until now, when eight lefties came to their senses and joined all Republican Senators to pass a bill that got Schumer nothing, but would re-open government – if it passes the House.
Monday night, the Senate passed a bill to end the government shutdown, snaring the required 60 votes to pass the clean continuing resolution – allegedly giving “no money to illegals or Obamacare.” This vote has failed 14 times in the past 40+ days, as Democrats tried to stick together and, as some on the right claim, use the shutdown to “juice their base” for elections that took place last week.
As Senate Republicans claim today, “This shutdown should have never been about ‘leverage.’ This shutdown should have never been about Democrats protecting their ‘brand.’ It never should have been about ‘winning.’ Because nobody wins in a shutdown, only the American people get hurt.
Just before the bill passed with 60 votes, including 8 of his tribe, Schumer (pictured at top via elsewhere), spewed forth, “I will not support the Republican bill that’s on the Senate floor because it fails to do anything of substance to fix America’s healthcare crisis.”
The legislation will need to pass in the U.S. House, which is likely to happen soon.
Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley again stuck it to Schumer this morning, saying, “2day is day 42 of the Schumer Shutdown tho the end is near thx to senate republicans sticking together & 8 democrats working in a bipartisan way to get food stamps & air traffic control & military & law enforcement & fed workers paid SOON.”
Iowa Senator Joni Ernst also chimed in Monday, saying, “The Schumer Shutdown never should have happened. Democrats’ political stunt hurt Iowans, held our servicemembers and air traffic controllers hostage, and cost Americans billions.”
Meanwhile, today, U.S. House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries is vowing to keep the shutdown going, “no matter what comes over” from the Senate to the House, Democrats are ‘not going to support’ it. The chamber is already debating the bill, and a vote could come at anytime.

Another side note……you need to research your source’s information better. Seven Democrats, not eight, voted with the Republicans (Angus King is an independent). Rand Paul, a Republican, voted against it and all seven of the Dems are not running again.
They voted for the public..not party. Nothing to lose
Wow. The Republicans are the ones who continued this shutdown for 42 days and they didn’t care who it hurt. Look at the polls. The American public knows who kept this shutdown going and they know who is to blame. 78% of Americans want the healthcare subsidies in place for next year. The Republicans don’t care and it is almost guaranteed that the House under Mickey Mouse Johnson will not bring continuing the subsidies up for a vote in the House even if the Senate approves it. Hell, Johnson doesn’t even want the Epstein files released. He knows he has to swear in Adelita Grijalva and if he chooses not to, he will be forced to do so by the courts. Look at trump’s comments about it. He responded to one of his supporters when she asked him to get grocery prices down. Trump: “An old fashioned term that we use — groceries. I used it on the campaign. It’s such an old fashioned term, but a beautiful term. Groceries. It says a bag with different things in it.” Did he respond to her question about prices? No, of course not, because he knows (not from personal experience, I might add) prices are not down because of his tariffs.
Dems voted 13-14 times not to open the gov’t and it’s the GOP ‘s fault?
Yep. Didn’t you hear your dear leader say that he would starve children rather than extend the healthcare subsidies?
Schumer is not my leader
Wasn’t Schumer who did this

“To the extent States sent full SNAP payment files for November 2025, this was unauthorized.
No… it was Democrats that kept the govt closed. Just as it was a few dems who came to their senses and voted to pass the bill on the floor. And Trump signed it … thereby re-opening govt.

Hopefully that is shut down and the insurance companies prosecuted and regulated.
