Fern M. Rollefson, 98, of Forest City, passed away on October 23, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society in Forest City.
A memorial service will be held at Forest Lutheran Church, 546 West M St, Forest City, IA, on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Glenn Smith officiating.
Visitation will occur prior to the service from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church on Thursday.
Burial of cremains will follow at West Prairie Cemetery in rural Thompson, IA.
Fern Maxine (Myre) Rollefson, daughter of Helmer and Elizabeth (Range) Myre, was born on a farm near Forest City on 8/3/1927. Fern was baptized and confirmed at Forest Synod Lutheran Church (now Forest Lutheran Church), where she was a lifetime member. She graduated from Forest City High School in 1945.
On July 23, 1948, she was united in marriage to Roger A. Rollefson. They lived in town until 1963 when they moved to their farm north of Forest City.
Fern was a housewife all her married life, loved being home with her family. She loved the outdoors, gardening, taking care of the yard, and taking long walks across the farm. Her husband, Roger, passed in 1990 and she stayed on the farm for an additional 10 years, when she then moved to Town Square Apartments. She continued her walking each day and enjoyed coffee time at the apartments.
In 2019, she moved to Good Samaritan due to health issues. There she enjoyed visiting with fellow residents, completing word puzzles, and helping others.

Mom had an unfailing faith in our Lord, sharing this faith with her family and as an example to others. During her last days in this world, she could be heard singing hymns of praise. She was a wonderful, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and in recent years, a great-great grandmother. She shared unconditional love and giving and was always there for all. She was one of those rare individuals who put her own needs aside to help her family. There were always baked goods available and meals ready for all. At times she could be somewhat quiet and shy but still had a bit of a “spicy” side to her. Her devotion to all will be with us forever. She taught us how to love.
Grateful for sharing her life are her children, Sandra (Ronald) Kingland, Owatonna, MN., Mikkel Rollefson, Sioux Falls, SD., and Tammy Randall, Sioux Falls, SD.; Daughter in Law, Julie Rollefson, Forest City, IA.; her grandchildren, Mike, Kari, Kristi, Tari, Michelle and Sue; 7 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger A. Rollefson Sr.; her son, Roger A. Rollefson Jr.; her father and mother-in-law, Henry and Bessie Rollefson; her son-in-law, Dean Randall; her six siblings; in-laws; and nephews and nieces.
