Janice E. (Brozik) Torkelson, age 83, died on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.
Graveside services for Janice will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Ellington Township Cemetery, 2293 300th St, Ventura IA 50482.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Lodge of New Hope, 2765 Virginia Ave North, New Hope, MN 55427.
Janice Eldean (Brozik) Torkelson was born on March 24, 1942 in Garner, IA to parents Edward and Eleanor (Irving) Brozik. Janice was the eldest of 5 children which also included sisters Joyce, Jo Ann, and Danette as well as her brother Dallas. She lived and grew up in Garner, IA, where she graduated from High School in 1959. She was involved in band and played saxophone. Later in life she completed her AA degree at NIACC in business administration.
Janice married Clarence Torkelson Jr during a snow storm on February 24, 1962 in Garner, IA. Janice was a dedicated stay at home mom and farming partner with Clarence while raising 4 children. Later in her life, she worked at the Forest City Summit and at the Freeborn County Assessor’s office in Albert Lea, MN.
Janice was a born again Christian and enjoyed growing deeper in her faith and knowledge of following Jesus. She was a very good piano player and singer which complimented her husband’s proficiency on guitar. She loved all animals – an inherited trait from her mother. Her spare time was spent with gardening and crafts, like making anything with yarn. She was an avid reader and loved spending time talking with people. Janice was a lifelong learner and was continually interested in learning about new places and topics. She loved keeping up on world events and news trivia.
Janice is survived by her 4 children, Kevin (Lori) Torkelson, Wendy (Kevin) Lowry, Kristen (Kevin) Oldenkamp, and Renee (Rodney) Batzlaff; grandchildren, Bailey, Mitchell (Molly), and Cade Torkelson, Kelsey (Katherine) and Kassidy Oldenkamp, Cassie (Zach) Braun, and Caitlin Batzlaff; great-grandchildren, Isla and Elliot Braun; sisters, JoAnn Cutshall (John Vogel) and Danette Brozik (Richard Pitcher); sister-in-law, Doris Brozik; and nephews, Noah O’Toole and Jonah O’Toole, as well as many other family members, including members of her late husband’s family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Jr. on June 3, 2003; her parents, Edward Brozik in 1997 and Eleanor Brozik in 2014; and 2 siblings, Joyce (Gary) Birch and Dallas Brozik, as well as other loved ones, including members of her late husband’s family.
