Arlin Vern Enabnit was born September 4, 1933, at home in Marble Rock, son of Ed and Doris (Vorhes) Enabnit. One of 5 brothers, Arlin grew up on the family farm west of Marble Rock and graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1951. Arlin worked on the family farm until he entered the Army in 1951 and served in Europe with antiaircraft batteries over the Baltic Sea.
Arlin met Marilyn Nehls and they were married March 3, 1957, in Charles City. They farmed for many years and raised two daughters in Marble Rock. He was a steward of the land and wanted his family to continue the farming operation. He went from field to field checking on the progress and giving his advice. He would call to see “how much rain did you get?”
Arlin was a member of the Marble Rock United Methodist Church. He served on the ASCS board for over 30 years. He also served over 20 years on the Floyd County Board of Supervisors. Arlin was a long-time member of the of the Marble Rock Lions Club and the American Legion. He also served on numerous county, community and school district boards over the years.
Above all, family was the most important part of his life. He cherished being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and was always there when his loved ones needed him. He enjoyed the simple things and loved telling stories about days gone by and his legacy will live on in those who knew and loved him.
Family members include his daughters: Brenda (Steve) Watters; Sandra (Rob) Robinson; grandchildren: Tanya Watters; Jake (Katie) Watters; Matt (Randy) Robinson; Mikki (Dave) Walters; Toni Robinson; and great grandchildren: Jack, Ava, Emerie, Bryer, Rilyn, Macoy, Jasper, Felix, Tanner, Tristan and Maeve.
