Ellery C. Wood, 88, of Garner, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Concord Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, September 22, 2025, at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., Garner with Rev. Scott Kozisek officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral chapel.

Ellery Crosby Wood, the son of Walter and Alma (Crosby) Wood, was born on September 29, 1936, on a farm south of Clear Lake. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1955. On April 6, 1956, he married Darlene Knopf at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ventura. They lived on a farm north of Clear Lake for several years before moving to Osage. In 1970, they moved to Garner, where they raised their three sons, Douglas, Dale, and Timothy. Ellery was employed as Public Works Director for the City of Garner for 28 years. For over 30 years, he helped his oldest brother, Amos, and his son, Dan, on their farm in the spring and fall. Ellery enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, and playing cards at Mat’s Place in Garner.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Ellery is survived by his three sons, Doug (Stacy) Wood of Mason City, Dale (Linda) Wood of Garner and Tim (Cindy) Wood of Blair, NE; ten grandchildren, Mackenzie Wood, Parker Wood, Andrew (Maggie) Wood, Sarah (Zach) Svare, Sam Wood and Natalie, Emily, Heidi, Zachary and Betsy Wood; five great-grandchildren, Charlotte Svare, Maverick and Ezekiel Wood, and Jered and Chloe Wood; two sisters-in-law, Rachel Wood of Clear Lake and Donita Wood of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene, Aug. 28, 2021; his parents; two sisters, Faith (Irv) Boyd and Delores (Glen) Zirbel; and brothers, Amos and Don Wood.
