Lois Mary Gehling, 98, was born to Henry and Josephine Heue on June 6, 1927 in Carroll, Iowa and went to heaven on September 16, 2025. She was the 4thof 6 children. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. She married Albert Gehling on August 26, 1947 at St. Lawrence in Carroll. In the early days of their marriage, she worked as a telephone operator in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They then moved to a farm by Gilmore City, Iowa and then to another farm by Rockwell City, Iowa. They had 4 children: Sheila, Dan and twins Carleen and Colleen. After the death of Colleen as an infant, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and then to Denver, Colorado. In 1964, they bought a farm just south of Grand Meadow, Minnesota and moved the family there. For many years Lois worked at the Mayo Clinic in the Business Office. After retirement, Lois and Albert were able to enjoy winters in Mesa, Arizona for 30 years. They especially enjoyed square dancing in Arizona and in Minnesota with the Rochester Carousels and the Austin Promenaders. After selling their farm to their son, Al and Lois moved to Stewartville in 1979. They returned to Grand Meadow in 1989. Lois and Al were lifelong members of St. Finbarr Catholic Church. They prayed the rosary daily. Their faith and their love of God gave their family a wonderful sense of gratitude to God. They were married for 63 years. Lois will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her, especially her children and their spouses: Sheila (Richard) Blahnik, Winona, MN, Dan (Kathy) Gehling, Grand Meadow, MN, Carleen (Mark) Wolterman, Adams, MN; her grandchildren Jeffrey (Ruthy) Blahnik, Anne (Luka) Bajzer, Jessica (Trevor) Fretty, Stephanie (David) Wytaske, Christina (Seth) Hertel, Matthew (Dani) Gehling, Michael (Courtney) Gehling, Theresa (Kevin) Hosch, John (Rebecca) Wolterman, Jenna (Jason) Manggaard, Benjamin Wolterman (Hannah Bergene), Elizabeth Wolterman (Nolan Babcock); her great-grandchildren, Molly, Charlie, Maeve and Henry Blahnik, James, Leo, Isaac and Max Bajzer, Allison (Brock) Johnson, Isabelle, Nathan and Dustin Fretty, Madelyn, Evelyn and Collin Wytaske, Ellie Gehling, Luke Gehling, Kason and Kallan Hosch, Henry and Violet Wolterman, Aiden and Lucy Manggaard, and her great-great grandchildren: Everett, Elijah and Ezra Johnson. She is also survived by 2 sisters-in-law: Virginia Broich and Rita Gehling, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Al, her parents, her siblings, daughter Colleen, and grandchildren Kayla Wolterman, Brian Blahnik and Corrine Gehling.
Visitation will be at St. Finbarr Catholic Church, Grand Meadow from 4-7 pm on Friday, September 26th with the rosary said at 4 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 27th at St. Finbarr Catholic Church with the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 9:50 am, visitation at 10:00 am and Mass at 11:00 am with burial to follow at St. Finbarr Cemetery.
