BOONE – An Iowa youth brought a gun to school and painted it up to look more realistic, and police were called, leading to stiff charges and being sent home with his parents.

On September 15, 2025, at approximately 9:03 AM, the Boone Police Department received a report from administrators at Boone Middle School regarding a juvenile male who had brought a firearm into the school.

Officers responded immediately and made contact with all involved parties. Upon investigation, the weapon was determined to be an “airsoft” style gun that had been painted to resemble a real firearm. Officers took possession of the weapon.

The juvenile male was charged with threat of terrorism and released to his parents.

At this time, officers claim there are no ongoing threats to students, staff, or the community. The Boone Police Department said afterwards that they remain committed to ensuring the safety of our schools and appreciated the swift actions of school staff in reporting this matter.
