Phyllis Mae Umsted, 89, of Clear Lake, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held in Antigo, WI at her home church, Peace Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Visitation with family at 1:00pm. Memorial Service at 2:00pm, with burial immediately following at Elmwood Cemetery, Antigo, WI. Cookies, Coffee and Fellowship will follow the burial, at Peace Lutheran Church.
Phyllis was born on February 21, 1936, in Antigo, Wisconsin, the daughter of Bernard and Clara (Winter) Brandt. She received her education in the Antigo school system, and 5th-8th grade at Peace Lutheran School, and graduated from Antigo High School in 1954.
On December 29, 1956, Phyllis was united in marriage to Robert Leroy Umsted at Peace Lutheran Church in Antigo. Together, they were blessed with two children, Ronald and Deborah.
Phyllis was a devoted wife and mother who took pride in raising her family while supporting Robert’s career in the United States Air Force. Their life together brought them to live in approximately 12 states and even abroad in Tehran, Iran, creating many lasting memories along the way. Once settled, Phyllis enjoyed working part-time, but her greatest joy was always her family and friends.
She loved bowling, knitting, sewing, camping, walking, and water aerobics. She was always very active. She volunteered at Eastview Nursing Home in Antigo, WI for many years. Some of her fondest memories were Friday night fish fries with friends and time spent at the family cottage on Upper Post Lake, Wisconsin, where she cherished the outdoors. Phyllis was blessed with many many great friendships throughout her long life.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Ronald (Barb) Umsted of Elgin, Iowa and Deborah (Jim) Morrison of Clear Lake, Iowa, along with cherished grandchildren Tara (Tom) Lilliberg, Allison (Brandon) Waldschmidt, Michelle (Nick) Huepel, Matthew Umsted. Along with 9 very special great grandchildren.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Clara Brandt, her brothers Bernard Brandt and Floyd Brandt, her husband Robert Umsted (2015), and her granddaughter Erica Morrison Hintze (2023).
