March 4, 1943 – August 19, 2025

Mary Loraine Broome, age 82, died August 19, 2025 at home in Aitkin, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Epiphany Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th St SE, Mason City with Father Ben Valentine, Celebrant. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. before Mass at the church. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Mary was born March 4, 1943 in Rockwell, Iowa, the daughter of Victor and Josephine (Fitzgerald) Mullaney. She attended school in Rockwell until her parents moved to Mason City and she then attended and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1961. Mary married Richard Broome on February 5, 1966 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mason City, Iowa. Their three children were raised in Minneapolis, MN; Plymouth, MN; and Clear Lake, Iowa. While her children were growing up, she worked at Honeywell, Sperry Univac, Canterbury Inn, and Valley Cues. Mary and Richard moved up to Aitkin, MN in 2008.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, pizza making, watching movies, going to garage sales, talking with everyone she’d meet, and going on driving trips. Acts of Service was her love language and there wasn’t a house project that she wasn’t part of for her kids. She loved taking care of her family and most of all being with her children and grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her husband, Richard Broome, Aitkin; three children, Julie (Rob) Walker, Minnetrista, MN, Tom Broome (Jodi), Mission Viejo, CA, and Steve Broome (Jean), Burnsville, MN; seven grandchildren; one sister, Connie (Thomas) Smith, Rochester, MN; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers and sister-in-laws, Martin (Mary) Mullaney and Donald (Joan) Mullaney, her sister and brother-in-law, Darlene (Bob) Linahon, and her sister and brother-in-law, Molly (George) Harklerode.

She’ll be remembered for her selflessness and unending service to others, her generous spirit, and unrelenting faith in Christ.
