Irene Louise Wiedrich Ameling, 63, of Sumner, died suddenly, Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Unity Point/Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the American Legion Hall in Sumner. Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.

Irene Louise Wiedrich Ameling was born, June 17, 1962, in Burlington, Wisconsin to Richard Lou Velma (Rozell) Wiedrich. She went to school in Traver Country School, Walworth, Wisconsin from 1967-1972, when the family moved to Sumner, Iowa and she attended Sumner Community Schools and graduated in 1980. She held many different job positions at Atwood, Red Fox Inn, Casey’s, Rockwell Automation, Omega Cabinets, Beatrice, and cleaned many homes in the Sumner area.

She was united in marriage with Steve Pleggenkuhle and one child, Justin was born into that marriage in 1982. They later divorced. She married Dennis Ameling and one was child, Seth was born into that marriage in 1988. They later divorced. She later had her third and last child, Calum in 1991. Her three boys were her life. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and played her games on the computer and playing board games and cards.

Irene’s life was turned upside down in 2003 when she lost her youngest son, Calum. His passing was very hard on her and her family. Her world turned upside down again in 2023 when she lost her oldest son, Justin.

Irene is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Seth and Alice Ameling; grandchildren, MaKayla Schmidt (Jamie), Taggart Kite, Levi and Leland Ameling; her father, Richard (Shorty) Wiedrich; her brothers, Joe (Shelia) Wiedrich, Roy Wiedrich, Frank Wiedrich; her sister, Kathy (Randy) Westendorf; nieces and nephews, Jeremiah Boehme, Jessica (Jerome) Hubert, Keegan Wiedrich, Josie (Tanner) Judisch, Sena Westendorf, Shawn Westendorf, and Jackson Westendorf; great-nieces and great-nephew, Caitlynn and Caleb Hubert and Isla Westendorf; many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Calum, her oldest son, Justin (Jake); her mother, Lou Velma; and maternal and paternal grandparents.
