OBIT: Howard L. Abendroth

Howard L. Abendroth, age 90 of Forest City, IA, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at the Westview Care Center in Britt. A public visitation for Howard will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 PM on Monday, August 18, 2025 at Schott Funeral Homes.

Howard L. Abendroth, age 90 of Forest City, IA, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at the Westview Care Center in Britt, IA.

A public visitation for Howard will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 PM on Monday, August 18, 2025 at Schott Funeral Homes in Forest City.

Burial of his urn and military honors will follow the visitation around 3:30 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson, IA with military honors performed by the Leland VFW Post #6161 and the Vietnam Vets of America – North Iowa Chapter #790.

Howard Lloyd Abendroth was born in Mason City, IA to parents Carl and Helen (Krivohlavy) Abendroth. He grew up in Mason City, attending Mason City public school. After his schooling, Howard enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country honorably for over 20 years, serving in the Korean War, and two tours during the Vietnam War, stationed all over the world.

On March 3, 1979, Howard was united in marriage to Sharon (Peterson) in Manly, IA. Together, the couple enjoyed golfing, going to craft shows, and the occasional trips to the casino. Howard worked as a Surveyor, mainly for Price Surveying in Mason City, until his retirement at the age of 62. When he wasn’t working, Howard enjoyed woodworking, bowling, and watching baseball and football.

He is preceded in death by both parents, Carl and Helen Abendroth; a twin brother, Harold; and a sister, Marie.

Howard is survived by his wife, Sharon Abendroth; sister, Mary Ann (Boyd) LaRue; as well as his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; he is also survived by many loving extended family and friends.
