Kathryn Kay Schrauth, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Erdman) Goetz, was born January 12, 1938 in Wesley, Iowa. She received her education in Wesley, graduating from Wesley High School.
On November 24, 1958 Kay was united in marriage to Bernard J. Schrauth at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wesley. They were blessed with three children. In 1964 Kay and Bernard moved to Emmetsburg where they made their home. Kay and Bernard owned and operated Schrauth Grocery Store in Emmetsburg for several years.
Kay was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. She loved playing cards, especially Bridge and Pinochle. She was a member of several different card clubs and Kay loved to win! When her children were young, Kay enjoyed sewing, making many of the kids’ clothes.
Kay and Bernard loved to travel and they had the joy of wintering in Donna, Texas for over 20 years, until Bernard’s death in 2022. Kay will be remembered by her family and friends as a caring, social individual. She believed in treating everyone equally but she could be very blunt and straight forward. Her family knew they could count on her to be there when they needed her.
Kay passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Goetz; her husband, Bernard; an infant daughter; and brothers, John Goetz and Ed Goetz.
She is survived by her children, Ruth (Leon) Wojahn of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Dale (Shirley) Schrauth of Arthur, Iowa and John (Darlene) Schrauth of Bloomington, Minnesota; seven grandchildren ten great grandchildren; a sister, Donna Grangenett of Algona, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.
