
OKOBOJI, IOWA – A Northern Iowa man was killed in an apparent bicycle accident in this tourist resort area, and police are investigating the incident.
The Dickinson county sheriff’s office investigated a bicycle accident that was reported July 3 at 1:40 am that happened on the sidewalk, along the west side of Hwy 71 near Clare Wilson state park.
Neil Connolly, age 40 of Okoboji, was found unresponsive on the sidewalk after an apparent single bicycle accident. Life saving measures were performed on scene and he was transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare where he was eventually pronounced deceased.
The incident remains under investigation.
According to an obituary, “Neil grew up in Ireland and spent his adult life in the United States. He enjoyed working as a barman who took great care of the people he served. But his passion to serve and cater went far beyond the hospitality industry–taking care of others was his way of being. Neil lived life with exuberance and a whole-hearted sense of wonder. He could fill any room with his enormous joy, his warmth, and his capacity to make everyone feel like a dear friend included in the party.”
