Alwyn U. Beatty, 75, of rural Westgate, died suddenly Thursday, July 10, 2025, at his home.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, at the Independence V.F.W.

Alwyn Urving, son of Albert and Violet (Christopher) Beatty was born March 12, 1950, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. The family moved to Waterloo when Alwyn was two years old. He was in the Mormon Church as a youth. Alwyn received his education in the Waterloo School System and graduated from East High School in 1968. He continued his education at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, earning degrees as a Mechanic and later in Advanced Electronics. On August 27, 1968, he was united in marriage with Jacqueline Winter in Cedar Falls. To this union six children were born, Heather, Lanee, Skylar, Travis, Aaron and Jeremy. The family made their home in rural Independence until moving to their home, rural Westgate in 2002. Alwyn worked at Rath Packing for many years, prior to his long career with Hawkeye Community College, where he worked as a Fleet Mechanic. He enjoyed Westerns, spending time in nature, bird watching and loved time with his grandchildren.

Alwyn is survived by his wife, Jacqueline of rural Westgate; children, Travis (Jenny) Beatty of Hazleton, Aaron Beatty of Monona, Jeremy (Nicole) Beatty of Manchester and Deb Beatty of Lost Nation; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alice Beatty of Waterloo, Karen Edmondson of Waterloo, Connie Winter of Waterloo, Michelle and Dan Friedman of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, and Deana Winter of Portland, Oregon; and two nieces, Judith and Sara.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Skylar Beatty, Lanee Heidt and Heather Larsen and siblings, Darwin Beatty and Gwenny Janssen.
