Jimmie E. Harris, 89, of Boone, passed away Monday, June 30, 2025, at his home, with his family by his side.

Jimmie was born on May 16, 1936 in Maitland, Missouri, the son of Norvel, Sr. and Dora (Fuller) Harris.

Jimmie was united in marriage to Rachel McCall on October 22, 1955. From this union, five children were born.

Jimmie worked at Iowa State University as a Steamfitter and Welder, where he worked at the physical plant, on service trucks, and at residences. He retired in 2001.

Jimmie enjoyed wood working, horses, and playing guitar. He played in a country band called “Country Playmates” for several decades, playing at local events and venues. Jimmie was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He enjoyed spoiling his grandkids and great grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rachel Harris in 2016; his daughter, Tracy Disbrowe; grandson, Michael Disbrowe; three brothers, Norval Harris, Jr., Bob Harris, and Kenny Harris; and four sisters, Lillie Ervin, Dorothy Mitchell, Jeannie Shores, and Joyce Tunnell.

Jimmie is survived by four children, Dick (Patty) Harris, Rick “Sam” Harris, Nick (Carla) Harris, and Vickie Harris; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone, IA 50036, followed by a graveside service at 12:30 P.M. in Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, Iowa Chapter, at https://www.alz.org/iowa/about.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone.
