OBIT: Richard “Dick” John Brown

Richard (Dick) John Brown, age 86, of Osage, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage.

Richard (Dick) John Brown, age 86, of Osage, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Born March 10, 1939, to Carl and Margaret (Gaffey) Brown. Dick attended Visitation High School in Stacyville, Iowa, graduating in 1957. He married Rebecca (Becky) Voaklander on June 14, 1958, at Sacred Heart Church in Osage. Together they enjoyed nearly 67 years of marriage and happiness. After marriage, Dick and Becky made their home and raised their family in Stacyville where Dick was self-employed throughout his working life. He joined his father to form Brown Construction Company that specialized in farmland drainage. A farming operation was established in 1968.

In 1976, he purchased an established insurance business from Ed Koster to form the Brown Insurance Agency. Together Dick and Becky ran the insurance business until retirement. Dick continued to survey farmland drainage systems and served on the Michell County Board of Review for many years. In his retirement, Dick enjoyed making games and puzzles in his workshop, golfing with Becky and friends, and yardwork.

Dick is survived by his wife, Becky, and his three children: Paul (Mary) Brown of Stacyville, IA, Vicki (Ronan) of Castle Pines, CO, and Jeanne; grandchildren: Elizabeth (Will), Bridget, Rachel (Kyle), Maria (Nick), Simon, Nathan, Nicholas, Brittany, Zackary, Stephen; great-grandchildren Otis, Beatrix, Daphne; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Charlene, James, and Judith.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with the funeral Mass immediately following at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Lunch will follow in Conroy Hall. Burial will be at the Visitation Catholic Cemetery, at approximately 1:30 p.m.
