Iowa man’s crime spree ends after man found shot in his car

This young Iowa man perpetrated a crime spree this week as he allegedly shot another man in a car then stole a bike and attempted to break into a residence and steal a car.

IOWA CITY – This young Iowa man perpetrated a crime spree this week as he allegedly shot another man in a car then stole a bike and attempted to break into a residence and steal a car.

At 11:00 PM on Monday, May 26, 2025, the Iowa City Police Department responded to the 800 block of Cross Park Avenue for a report of a shooting. An investigation into the incident found a man had been shot inside his vehicle by a subject who fled the scene on a stolen bike. The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Francois Pierre Parker of Iowa City.

At 1:30 AM on May 27, police responded to the 10 block of Gleason Drive for a report of a man who had broken into a residence and was attempting to steal a vehicle. Police formed a perimeter and located Parker hiding behind a nearby residence. Parker was found with a stolen gun and ammunition and was positively identified as the suspect in the Cross Park Avenue incident.

As a result of the investigation into the two incidents, Parker faces the following charges:

– Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury
– Intimidation With A Dangerous Weapon
– Trafficking in Stolen Weapons Used in a Crime
– Going Armed With Intent
– Second-degree Burglary
– Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon
– Use of a Dangerous Weapon in the Commission of a Crime
– Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons
– Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana
– Fifth-degree Theft

The case remains under investigation, and Parker (pictured at top) remains held in the Johnson county jail awaiting court appearances.
