On March 11, 1956, Duane was united in marriage to Shirley (Arndt) at the Congregational Church in Rockwell. Together they had 4 children. Duane was good with his hands, constantly working on his home and inventing new things. He created solutions to any problem. If he didn’t have the tool to finish a job, he would build his own. He would use these skills in his garden and around the family farm. On the farm were Duane’s beloved Chickens. When he was working, Duane was a truck driver for Builder Supply and Midwest Wholesale. He was known for his sense of humor and always having something to say.
Those left to cherish Duane’s memory are his wife of 69 years Shirley Ballhagen, daughter Connie Strong, his sister Sandra (Harold) Pippert, 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Duane was preceded in death by his daughters Terri Ballhagen and Peggi Meyer, son Duane William “Will” Ballhagen, sister Sharon Cordle, and brother Don and his wife Diana Ballhagen.
The family would also like to extend the greatest of thank you’s to the Rockwell Community Nursing Home and MercyOne Hospice of North Iowa for their excellent care.
