Richard (Rick) was born on September 1, 1952, in Hobbs, New Mexico. Richard grew up in the Waterloo area, where he attended local schools. He later moved to the Waucoma area to a place he would come to call home for the rest of his life.

It was in Waucoma where Richard met the love of his life, Wendy Phillips. The two were married on March 29, 1971, in Osceola, Iowa, and together they built a life filled with devotion, laughter, and countless adventures. Their home in Waucoma became a central gathering place for family and friends over the years.

Richard was a dedicated and hardworking man. He spent time working at John Deere in Waterloo, Bantam Schield in Waverly, and Beatrice Cheese in Fredericksburg before ultimately building a long and fulfilling career at Nestlé in Waverly. As a maintenance repairer, he proudly served the company for over 18 years before retiring.

Richard’s love for the outdoors defined much of his free time. He found joy in fishing, golfing, boating with his grandchildren, and foraging for mushrooms and asparagus. Summers were especially treasured, as his grandchildren would come to stay, and together they shared countless outdoor adventures, creating lifelong memories.

He was an avid supporter of his grandkids’ activities, rarely missing a sporting event. Known for his warm personality and outgoing nature, Richard was truly a social soul who loved connecting with others and being part of his community. Though his health declined in later years, his kind spirit and love for life never wavered.

Richard is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wendy of Waucoma; one daughter, Lori Kuboushek of Calmar; one son, Randy (Sarah) Caddell of Decorah; four grandchildren, Katelyn Kuboushek of Calmar, Kyle Kuboushek of Calmar, Lydia Caddell of Decorah, Tanner Caddell of Decorah; Three brothers, Jack (Penny) Caddell of Waucoma, and Lynn and Robert of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Caddell, and his brother Michael Caddell.
