On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Carla Colleen Cassidy passed away from dementia-related causes at Evans Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa, surrounded by her family. She was 74 years old.

Carla, the second of seven children, was born in Waterloo, Iowa on March 28, 1951, and lived most of her life in Lime Springs. She graduated from Crestwood High School in 1969, excelling in her scholastic achievements and playing the bass clarinet in All-State Band. She then attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, and later completed her medical technician training in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

During her life, Carla provided personal care and support for her grandmother and parents in their later years. She was a devoted Christian and a longtime member of the Lime Springs United Methodist Church. Her faith was central in her life. Carla sang alto in the choir and participated in the chime choir. She was an active Bible student with a well-marked Bible and had been baptized by her grandfather, Reverend Henry Raecker.

Carla was known for her kind, generous, and gentle spirit — always looking out for others she could help. She will be deeply missed by the many souls she touched and remembered for her beautiful smile.

Carla was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and LaVon Cassidy, her older brother, Ronald and her younger sister, Kathleen.

She is survived by her brothers, Gregory (Deborah) of Liberal, KS, Andrew (Cathy) of Rolla, MO, and Kent (Don Ristad) of St. Louis Park, MN, and her sister, Maureen Persinger (David) of Gladstone, MO. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Evans Memorial Home, Cresco Assisted Living and Howard County Community Hospice. We were extremely impressed with the care, support and love everyone gave Carla and us over her final years. We are very grateful to have these resources and personnel available in this community.

A memorial service will be held at the Lime Springs Community Center at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday May 3, 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Lime Springs Pleasant Hill Cemetery or Lime Springs United Methodist Church.
