March 8, 1963 – April 7, 2025

Randal K. Black, 62 of Mason City, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 7, 2025, at MercyOne North Iowa.

His family plans to honor his life with a garden party in the spring.

Randal Keith Black was born March 8, 1963, in Los Angeles, California, the son of William J. and Linda S. (Cannon) Black. He grew up in Hawaiian Gardens, California, and graduated from Artesia High School in 1982. Randal was blessed with two children, Joshua and Shea. Over the years, the family moved frequently before eventually settling in northern Iowa. He lived in Klemme for many years and worked a variety of jobs, including a memorable time at Hy-Vee Floral. Most recently, he owned and operated Tiques and Treasures, an antique store in Mason City that was his pride and joy. On October 5, 2019, Randal married Joseph D. Phillips at Clear Lake, and the two made their home in Mason City.

Randal had a true gift for conversation and could talk to anyone. He never met a stranger. His bright Hawaiian shirts were as lively as his personality, and his sense of humor could lift anyone’s spirits. He was always happy, humble, and full of life. His kindness ran deep, and he never said a cross word about anyone. He loved connecting with people in his shop, taking part in Civil War reenactments, and staying active in the community through his work with the Democratic Wing Ding. Randal brought joy wherever he went and had a way of making everyone feel welcome and at ease.

Surviving are his spouse, Joseph D. Phillips; children, Joshua M. (Amanda) Black of Florida and Shea Black of Forest City; grandchildren, Elektra, Ethan, Aurelia, Nikki, Jaxxon, Elsa, Tristian and Trinity; brothers, William “Tom” (Stephani) Black and David (Debbie) Black; mother-in-law, Tracey Phillips; as well as many extended family members and countless cherished friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents; a sister, Kandi Black; grandparents; and his father-in-law, Mickey Joe Phillips.
