Clear Lake, Iowa – Frances Osmundson aka Frannie; Frantic; Mom; Nana Oz; Mrs. Oz; Fran, 94, died peacefully in her sleep at her home on Friday, March 14, 2025.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. June 21st, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1001-9th Ave. South, Clear Lake, Iowa, with Rev. Josh Link officiating. A private inurnment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City at a future date.
A Celebration of Life will follow from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Clear Lake Yacht Club, 103 Main Ave., Clear Lake, Iowa.
Fran was born on January 20, 1931, the middle child of Alpha Patterson Swartz and Edna Mary (Thines). Fran graduated from Iowa Falls High School and started her college education at St Theresa’s in Winona, Minnesota. After transferring to the University of Iowa she earned her bachelor’s degree in economics and journalism. After graduating from the University of Iowa, she moved to Chicago to pursue an advertising career, working at Foote, Cone & Belding.
On June 26th, 1954, she was married to William “Oz” Osmundson at St. Mark Catholic Church in Iowa Falls, Iowa. After their marriage they moved to Rock Island, Il. where she and Oz raised 3 sons, Brad, Bill & Kurt. Fran and Oz were married for 67 eventful years.
During their marriage they enjoyed time on the Mississippi River; hunted ducks in Southern Illinois; spent summers in Clear Lake, Iowa sailing and boating as well as skiing out West with their boys. Fran also loved traveling outside the country with Oz and their close friends.
In later years, after moving to Clear Lake, Iowa permanently they were able to enjoy life on the lake with their grandchildren. In her spare time, Fran contributed her cheerful and vivacious nature to many causes and organizations in both the Quad Cities and Clear Lake, often centered around her lifelong interest in the arts, gardening and cooking.
Fran is survived by her sons, Brad (Margaret) Osmundson, Eden Prairie, MN, Bill (Linda) Osmundson, Minnetonka, MN, and Kurt (Mindy) Osmundson, Galesburg, IL; grandchildren, Christian (Kylie) Osmundson, Jon (Lizzie) Osmundson, Zach Osmundson, and Erik, Elizabeth & Annelise Osmundson, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Fran is preceded in death by her parents, husband Oz, sister Elizabeth (Don) Sondag, and brother John (Judy)
Swartz.
