Diane Faye Heibel, age 82, of Thornton, IA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Mercy One North Iowa Medical Center.
Born June 23, 1942 in Forest City, Iowa, the third daughter to Robert and Eunice Evanson. She spent her young life growing and achieving through school, church and home in Clear Lake, Iowa. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1960. Late 1963, she began correspondence with a deployed Navy Corpsman from Maryland that would change her life. On June 19, 1965 Diane married her pen-pal sweetheart of 18 months, Conrad (Moxie) Heibel in Annapolis, Maryland.
After the wedding, she devoted her life to supporting Moxie and her two boys, Conrad and Tim in Annapolis, Maryland. She was an amazing chauffer, chef, housemaid, and counselor for her three men. She cared deeply for her family and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help to anyone. After Moxie retired in 1997 the couple moved back to Iowa. This allowed Diane to spend more time with her sisters and mother as well as a chance to pursue her passions of sewing and quilting.
Diane was married to her soulmate Moxie for almost 58 years before he preceded her in death. Diane passed Tuesday March 4 after extended illness. She was more than family to many and will be sorely missed.
Diane is survived by her two sons, Conrad Jr. and his wife Katie, and Timothy and his wife Lorraine of Maryland; four grandchildren Jane, Peter, Griffin and Cooper Heibel and her sisters Dixie and her husband Richard, and Donna and her husband Darrell.
At Diane’s request, there will be no services, she never wanted to be the center of attention. But before she passed she made it known that she wanted everyone to share a laugh and raise a glass in celebration of her journey home to once again be with Moxie.
