A funeral service for Sue Burrs will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the United Methodist Church in Corwith, with Pastor Lissa Kahl officiating. The service will be live streamed on the Oakcrest Funeral Services Facebook Page. Burial will be held at the Corwith Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM to the time of the service on Friday.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Croix Hospice in Sue’s name.
Sue Ann Burrs was born on July 16, 1937, in Cherokee; the daughter of Wilfred and Margaret (Edson) Ayers. A graduate of Belmond High School in 1955, Sue played basketball in her youth. After high school, Sue attended college to become a nurse.
As a persistent school girl , she had her eyes on John Burrs who was very shy until he met his match. On August 8, 1957, Sue was united in marriage to John in Algona. Together they farmed in the Goodell and Kanawha area before moving to Corwith to farm. You could often find her helping with fieldwork. Later in life, she and John enjoyed watching westerns together, a favorite pastime of theirs.
Sue was best known for her warmth, kindness, and the care she put into everything she did, especially her cooking. Her famous chicken and potatoes and Sunday roasts were always a highlight for her family and friends. She also cut hair and was the family barber. Sue had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. She was a lover of animals, especially cats and dogs, but above all, Sue cherished spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Every morning, Sue could be found sipping her coffee and enjoying cookies for breakfast. One of her favorite traditions was gathering with her family to share stories on Christmas Eve. Her faith was important, and she was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Corwith. She taught Sunday School, participated in Bible studies, and was involved with the ladies’ aid group. Sue also enjoyed music, especially country and Christian songs.
Sue made her home in Britt at the Summit House before moving to West View Care Center where she died on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. She was 87.
She is survived by her children, Nancy Rasmussen, Ann (Bruce) Carroll and daughter-in-law, Susan Burrs; brother, Jim (Hope) Ayers; grandchildren, Tricia (Duane) McGregor, Cassie (Bruce) Collins, Daniel (Melissa) Burrs, Kristin (Brad) Wempen, Katie Vohs, Stacy (Ben) Eekhoff, Tony Rasmussen and fiancé Amanda, Cory (Samantha) Burrs, Matthew Burrs and fiancé Marina, Renae (Grant) Vaske, Rachael (Nate) Jacobson and Jason (Jamie) Carroll; 36 great-grandchildren and other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; sons, Kevin Burrs and Scott Burrs; grandson, Andrew Rasmussen; great-grandson, Cael Subject; and brother William and sister-in-law Nancy Ayers.
